Militello in Val di Catania (Commune di Militello)
is a small town one hour inland from Catania - here we witnessed an annual Festa di Santa Maria della Stella in Militello - with the parish from the Chiesa Santa Maria della Stella.
We stayed in a gorgeous B & B called Porta della Terra.
The festival starts about 5pm when an amazing gold stature is taken out of the church and paraded through the town, carried by many pious young men. The babies are held up for Maria's blessing and general celebrations also include matching bands and fireworks.
